Case Study
Manager Development System
Designing structured approaches to coaching and team performance

Problem
Managers are often expected to develop their teams without a clear framework to guide performance evaluation, coaching, and prioritization.
This leads to inconsistent development, unclear priorities, and limited accountability.
Solution
I designed a structured system to help managers run more effective development conversations and track progress over time.
The system enables managers to:
- assess performance across key areas
- identify priority development opportunities
- track progress through action items
- create accountability through structured follow-up
System Design
The system is organized into four core areas:
- Performance Management — defining expectations and accountability
- Skill Development — identifying capabilities required for growth
- Coaching — tracking development of team members
- Leadership — expanding impact beyond direct responsibilities
Each area includes health indicators to track current progress, prioritization to focus on key areas, and actionable initiatives to drive improvement.
Execution Layer
The system includes an action tracking component to capture commitments from 1:1 conversations, assign clear ownership and timelines, and track progress over time.
A change log ensures visibility into development trends and accountability.
Impact
This system enables:
- more structured and effective coaching conversations
- clearer prioritization of development efforts
- improved accountability for both managers and employees
- consistent performance management across teams
